Strategic Alliance Between CIMMYT and IICA Aims to Drive Agri-Innovation and Growth in the Americas
To promote agricultural research, innovation, and commerce throughout the Americas, CIMMYT and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
This strategic partnership combines research, technology, and close international cooperation to increase farmers’ economic possibilities, resilience, and productivity. The MoU focuses on important topics such family farming, agrifood digitization, climate-resilient agriculture, trade and regional integration, innovation and the bioeconomy, and agricultural health and safety.
Dr. Bram Govaerts, Director General of CIMMYT, highlighted the importance of innovation and market-driven solutions: “Partnerships like CIMMYT–IICA turn science into scale. Together, we’re accelerating innovation, supporting farmers, and strengthening food systems across the Americas—because global challenges demand connected solutions.”
